HEADLINE: FINAL JAZZ PERFORMANCE AT THE VILLA
BODY:
JOINT PRESS STATEMENT BY DAN FORSHAW & THE VILLA HOTEL
WREA GREEN
As one great philosopher once said “all good things must come
to an end”, Friday November 3rd 2006 will see the final Live
Jazz performance at the Villa Wrea Green. The events that have
run every month for four seasons (since April 2003) will close
with a celebration concert fronted by Saxophone star Dan Forshaw.
Dan, who has fronted and promoted the event since its conception
moved to London last year, is sad to see the end of the Villa
but commented; “We have had a phenomenal time at the Villa.”
Adding, “Many people said that LIVE jazz particularly modern
contemporary Jazz had died on the Fylde coast, yet we have seen
a fantastic response over our time at the Villa, converting
many people over to Jazz music and giving a stage to young talented
musicians such as Sarah Hughes, Scarlett Rutherford, Chris Hargreaves,
Jason Walsh, J Hoy and Willy Fluss.”
The Villa hotel general manager Shane Williams commented “The
Villa has had great success with the Jazz events that Dan has
promoted and although sad to see our partnership ending we wish
Dan and his band every success in the future”. The event on
Friday 3rd November will see the Dan Forshaw Quartet in action
performing tracks from Dan’s new album “Message”, as well as
other music from the bands “Live at the Villa” and “Question
21” albums. The event starts at 8pm and runs till late, free
entry and all are welcome!
Dan hopes that Villa fans will be able to visit him at two of
his new venues in 2007. Brown Sugar, the Island St Anne’s plays
host to a special jazz evening on Friday 17th November with
Dan Forshaw Quintet featuring vocalist Scarlett Rutherford (who
is currently studying at LIPA, the fame school setup by former
Beatle Sir Paul McCartney). Dan hopes that Brown Sugar (winner
of the prestigious Gazette “new venue of the year” in 2006)
will provide more of an authentic “Jazz club” feel to the events
than was possible at the Villa. Lynda ….. “We are delighted
to welcome such an amazing performer as Dan Forshaw and his
band to Brown Sugar, we really feel Dan’s contemporary approach
to Jazz will work well with the modern stylish venue that we
have here at Brown Sugar.” Dan has also agreed a deal with former
manager of the Villa Tony Riley, to provide Jazz nights in 2007
at his new 5 star hotel in Deganwy, North Wales.
