LAUNCH TO NEW ALBUM
BODY:
Following on from a successful debut year, London School of
Theology is delighted to be staging its second ‘Jazz in the
Chapel’ event at its Northwood home on Thursday March 15th 2007.
The event has been put together by current LST student Dan Forshaw.
Dan, a professional musician who is in his second year as a
Theology and Music student moved to London from his native Lancashire
following a spell in the jazz capital of the world, New York.
Dan has been privileged enough to study or play with jazz legends
such as Branford Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane and Gregory Tardy.
The night will also see the launch of Dan’s latest album “Language
of Emotion.” It is Dan’s connection with the eldest of the Marsalis
brothers that was the reason for the recording of his new album.
While Branford was in town playing at the infamous Ronnie Scotts,
he requested that Dan “sent him some of his stuff.” The new
CD, recorded in the Chapel at LST is Dan’s fifth recording under
his own name and includes his own compositions alongside jazz
arrangements of classical compositions such as Mendelssohn’s
“Song without words,” and the haunting “Coventry Carol.”
Alongside Dan on the album is his long time drummer, J Hoy,
bassist Matt Hunt and the phenomenal talents of pianist Jonathan
Geyevu. Jonathan, a native Londoner and student of British Jazz
legend Julian Joseph, only met Dan in October and has since
become an integral part of his plans for the future. Dan commented,
“Jonathan has contributed so much to the band in such a short
time frame and his virtuosic abilities are a great extension
to the musical pallet that the band can produce.”
A recent deal with digital music supplier i-tunes, has lead
Dan to the decision to produce only a limited amount of physical
CD’s; mainly for purchase at the launch night, the rest will
be only available via the digital download service.
Tickets can be purchased from the box office on 01923 456220
or music@lst.ac.uk
